Ben Storie graduated from Oral Roberts University in 1998 with his Master of Arts in Christian Counseling.  He is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor (LADAC) and has advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).  He has experience in residential treatment, community counseling and private practice and is an adjunct professor at John Brown University’s Fort Smith campus. Ben presently works with couples, adolescents and their families, individuals in self-destructive patterns of behavior and individuals who have suffered trauma and loss.  Ben and his wife, Tonya, live in Fort Smith with their two daughters, Maggie and Eva.  They are active, passionate advocates for adoption and foster care.

We are the most curious and the most creative when we feel safe.

I have trained extensively in, and continue to study, Emotionally Focused Therapy, an exciting research-based model of therapy that focuses on restoring relationships by strengthening core connections between loved ones.  Once broken attachments have been restored, conflict and distress begin to diminish.  I don’t focus on applying labels and treating symptomatic behavior.  Rather, I think it’s important to treat the core emotional wounds that are adversely affecting behavior and mood.  I believe that our emotions and our behavior make sense if we understand the context in which they occur.  My goal is to understand where you have come from and what you have come through so we can better make sense of your current challenges.

We are the most curious and the most creative when we feel safe; safe from the fear that someone will think we’re crazy, safe from the insecurity that we’ll say the wrong thing and safe from the shame of being judged.  Compassion, genuine concern and acceptance are the core of my work and they are essential in creating the necessary space for counseling to be most effective.  It would be my privilege to help you understand your struggle and to walk with you into a place of restoration and wholeness.

You’re Stepping on My Toes

Posted by on Jun 9, 2015 in Marriage | No Comments

My wife has tender toes. I’m not speaking figuratively. They literally are. She’s had botched pedicures, ingrown toenails and even an unfortunate incident involving our daughter’s baseball cleat. Simply put, she’s got sensitive little piggies. And sometimes I step on them. I don’t mean to do it. But some evenings when we’re working in the […]
